Journey to Success by Charles Rose Jr. is a phenomenal book! It tells such an encouraging, inspiring, and motivating story, especially during this phase of my life as a high school senior.
Graduation is just a few months away, and this book sheds light on the realities and hardships of the “real world” and what it takes to overcome life’s obstacles. Just like Charles, I plan to attend university, but the amount of money I have compared to the cost of tuition is incomparable. However, this book gives me hope that if I put my trust in the Lord and also do my part in terms of my education, I can be victorious.
Charles did not have the finances needed to fully pay for his first year of college at the time. Yet, he made such a bold step of faith by purchasing a one-way ticket to Charlotte, North Carolina, not knowing if he would actually be able to fulfill his goal of becoming a civil engineer. In the days leading up to Charles’ orientation, he was drastically short of the tuition cost.
Due to the lack of payments, Charles eventually received one of the worst and most embarrassing blows of his entire life—an eviction notice! Imagine how he must have felt: hopeless, broken, and depressed. Nevertheless, Charles remembered the words from a book given to him before his departure: “Those who put their trust in the Lord will never be disappointed!” Charles continued to pray, trust, and believe that God would make a way—and He did.
While Charles was praying, he received a call from his stepmother, who told him that he had received a grant from the Government of The Bahamas that he had applied for. Additionally, he was given the opportunity to be interviewed by a news anchor/journalist at ZNS, the largest TV network in The Bahamas. After the interview, his life changed forever! He received calls from all over the world, with people wanting to invest in his goals and dreams. As a result, he was able to complete his degree with honors.
This book left me encouraged and uplifted, knowing that through God, I can and will achieve greatness. I am even more motivated to continue pushing toward my destiny, not allowing anything or anyone to stop me!
