Get On The Mountain

I read a powerful portion of scripture this morning coming from 1 Kings 19:11-13.

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.”

Sometimes God changes His approach to get our attention. The way God got the attention of Elijah was not the way it would usually happen. God told Elijah to go out and stand before Him on the mountain. As Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by. The Lord was not in the wind, He was not in the earthquake or in the fire. The Lord could have used any one of those avenues to get the attention of Elijah.

Instead, the Lord was in the sound of a gentle whisper. Elijah was in fear for his life as Jezebel said that she would kill him just as he killed the prophets of baal. The Lord came in a way that reassured Elijah to just BE STILL and know that He is God. Elijah needed a reminder of the Lord’s promises and His original mandate from the Lord to continue doing what God has called Him to do despite the death threats.

Maybe you think God is speaking to you through the wind, earthquake, fire or others things but He is not. God wants to give you a direct word for your situation today. Stop looking in the wrong places for God and find yourself on the mountain and listen out for HIS VOICE!
