Let’s take a journey through 2 Kings 4:1-7 (KJV)…
4 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
This widow woman was in some deep trouble. She faced the imprisonment of her two sons because her husband, one of Elisha’s servants, left the family in debt. She went to the man of God troubled, asking him for direction and a way out of this situation. Elisha then asked her, “What is in your house?” Without hesitation, she replied, “Nothing!” However, she then remembered the pot of oil she had. What could she possibly do with that pot of all right? Well, Elisha told her to go borrow pots to fill with the oil, and guess what? It covered all the debt and left overflow for her and her sons to live off.
Many times we become so distracted by what is happening on the outside that we forget what we have on the inside. How can we say we have nothing at all? Are we sure about that? What we may see as insignificant may be the very thing God uses to bring about our deliverance. That very thing may bring us and our family generational wealth. We can dismiss our own miracle by discrediting the very thing God gave us because it did not come in the way we expected. We must stop looking at things in the natural, and go beyond our feelings and see the way God sees. That widow woman may have seen that pot of oil as not enough, but God saw more than enough.
God is teaching us to use what we have. There is something that He has placed on the inside of us, and inside our homes that is valuable. What is that thing we have in the back of our minds that God is trying to bring forth? We tend to always cry “Jesus” when situations arise, but God wants us to become mature, where we begin to think and find creative and strategic solutions in times of crisis. We must stop crying and become creative. It is time to search our houses and see what God gave us, and use it. What do we have inside our houses that can be the answer to a problem we are facing right now? Even if it is not in a physical house, we all have spiritual houses with everything we need for life’s journey.
I want to point something else out. What did the widow woman do when she found out what was inside of her house? SHE SHUT THE DOOR! See, many times, we have to shut the door on some stuff. We have to shut the door on negativity, the naysayers, and anything that will prevent our progress. Shutting the door allows us to eliminate the clutter and focus on what God is saying and where He is trying to take us. Imagine if she had left that door open? People would have questioned her every move, called her crazy, and tried to sway her from doing what God told her. People’s opinions can cause us to miss out on our blessings. People will have us questioning God’s instructions for our lives. God told us what to do, not them. We do not owe anyone an explanation for our movements.
What if we are asking God for an answer He has already given us? Why are we asking God for help when He has already made help available?
WHAT’S IN YOUR HOUSE?
