Inside My First Month as a Digital Content Producer—Wins, Lessons, and Growth

In just over a month as a Digital Content Producer, I’ve enjoyed writing, managing social media, and growing our Instagram following significantly. Emphasizing team success over individual recognition, I appreciate the creative freedom and growth opportunities my role offers. Each assignment contributes to my personal development, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and consistency.

So, I’ve been in my full-time role as a Digital Content Producer/Reporter for just over a month now, and honestly—it’s been a really enjoyable experience so far.

I’ve been able to write and report on various stories, manage social media platforms, create lots of digital content, live-stream and report breaking news events, and much more.

One of the things that brings me joy is Instagram.

When I started, our Instagram following was around 30.4k. Now, we’re sitting at 32k.

That’s over a 1,000-person increase in just a few weeks—all from being consistent, creative, and intentional.

Recently, there was a story (the cell phone ban in Texas schools) that one of my bosses wanted me to share in a more creative way.

I won’t lie—I didn’t feel like doing all that, but he pushed me on it.

I went ahead and did it, and guess what?

It turned into one of our top-performing posts on Instagram.

Even better, it reached a ton of young people who are directly impacted by the story.

One thing I really appreciate about this job is the space I have to grow and learn.

Every supervisor or leader should know—not everyone starts at the same level.

You have to allow room for mistakes, hiccups, and learning moments.

That’s all part of the process.

Also… not being micromanaged? Game changer.

Nothing kills confidence faster than someone constantly breathing down your neck.

My leaders give me room to work and be creative, and that space opens up not just my potential—but the whole team’s.

The Big Picture:

Teamwork is everything.

We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and it’s okay to lean on each other.

While we have our own goals, they should all feed into the bigger mission.

Consistency matters.

We weren’t seeing growth on Instagram before, but the truth is—we weren’t giving it the same effort as other platforms.

Once I offered to take it on and we worked together as a team, the difference became clear.

Team success > individual success.

You know, sometimes there are people who want credit for everything they do—and that kind of mindset can really dampen a work environment.

Fostering a culture where we affirm each other, rather than constantly seeking recognition for ourselves, creates unity.

There are things I do that don’t need my name on them.

Why?

Because team success matters more.

And the same goes for others—when I write something that maybe isn’t my best, teammates help clean it up without needing to take credit.

Why?

Because when you win, we all win.

If I can help you succeed, that’s a win for me, too.

Every assignment helps me grow.

Sometimes it feels like a lot is being asked of me, but I’ve come to realize—it’s because they see something in me.

And at the end of the day, these are skills and experiences I’m gaining for myself.

A job can end tomorrow, but no one can take away what you’ve learned.

I’m still learning, still stretching, still figuring it out—but I’m grateful for where I am and what I’m building.

One day at a time, one story at a time, we keep growing.
