The Value of Every Battle
Often, people feel like their struggle does not matter because “someone always has it worse.”
But your fight does matter. A battle is a battle, no matter the size.
Just because you are not on your deathbed or facing a situation that others might consider “really bad,” does not mean the battles you face are not legitimate.
What many fail to realize is that what may not seem like a “big deal” to one person can be life-altering for someone else.
Understanding the Capacity to Handle Struggles
We do not know a person’s capacity to handle the challenges they face.
Sometimes we feel guilty, as if our struggles do not matter because they are not extraordinary or extreme.
I know I struggled with downsizing and downplaying my own experiences because other “serious issues” took the spotlight.
I thought, “Well, I guess my situation is not as bad as theirs, so…”
I have also been guilty of viewing others’ situations as “not that bad.” It is an easy trap to fall into.
But no battle is insignificant.
A Lesson from Jesus: Every Struggle Is Worth Noticing
I ponder the story of the woman with the issue of blood and Jairus’ daughter (found in Mark 5:22-43).
There are two situations at hand: a woman with an issue of blood for twelve years, and a dying daughter.
It is not hard to categorize those two cases from what we would deem as more serious or important.
Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house, yet stopped to see about a woman in distress. Her situation was bad, but come on, a little girl is dying. Should not that be more urgent?
Jesus did not see either one as more important or urgent than the other. Both individuals were facing battles of their own, and both deserved Jesus’ attention.
Seeing the Value in Your Own Fight
I am so glad Jesus modeled how we should see each other.
Your fight may not be my fight. Your battle may not be mine.
But your fight is seen. Your perseverance is seen. Your strength is seen. Your courage is seen.
Your battle does not have to be “crazy” for me to recognize your resilience and your ability to overcome.
God Sees You: Embrace Your Resilience
God knows, and God sees you.
I am proud of your resilience and the strength you show in facing it.
Final Words
We all face struggles, whether big or small.
Take a moment today to reflect on how much you have overcome and still overcoming, and embrace your God-given strength.
You are not alone, and your fight matters.
